Where are you living? Are you working out there? What business can I start? Have you driven out there yet? Do they have internet? What do you do to socialise? These are just some of the questions asked during the 11 months I was living in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo. It wasn't planned, not by me anyway. The opportunity came before me and I took it with a huge leap of faith. As a young black female born and raised in London, growing up with very little interaction with Congolese people, other than my family of course. All because of what I thought I knew of Congo. I was wrong. So very wrong. During my stay in Kin, I rejoiced, I grieved, I celebrated, I struggled, I laughed, I cried, I was inspired, I was lost. Sometimes I felt all the above, all at the same time. This podcast focuses on the lessons learnt, the whys and hows, what was done, when and where. Of course you can listen to me talk all about it, but there's only so much I can say. Plus, I'm more of a listener, ironically, and thought it'll be more insightful to hear such experiences from the truly bold and inspiring people I've met, also from the diaspora, now live in, working, or have business in Congo. These honorable guests aim to provide you with insight, guidance, and knowledge on how to potentially transition from the West, how to invest, live, work, and fundamentally unlearn and relearn the reality of Congo. I'm Belili, and this is the future is Congo.
